For the first time since its intervention Russia has officially acknowledged its military failure in Syria. Russian officials have admitted that Daesh is gaining territory and rapidly expanding.

Despite using different kinds of advanced weapons and carrying out more than 140 airstrikes every day, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said Daesh has been expanding.
“The influence of Islamic State is increasing in Syria, where militants control around 70 per cent of the country,” AFP reported Shoigu as saying during his ministry's annual collegium event.
He added: “the number of ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria is around 60,000, and there is a threat of violence spilling over into former Soviet Central Asia.”
